REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES OF HYDROMECH CHITRAL

For the smooth running of a micro-hydro village electrification scheme, proper operation and maintenance is vital. Small instances of neglect can lead to large problems for the whole scheme. Even a small repair may have to be attended without delay so as to ensure the whole system is running smoothly. Most of the projects designed and implemented lack the idea of repair and maintenance, which hampers the development process of the areas ultimately leading to the miss utilization of resources. It has been evident that proper maintenance services can lead to a regular flow of electricity.

Recently, Hydromech has executed successfully established service points in district Chitral. Which providing repairs and maintenance services to more than 200 MHPs of the district. Thus, 7 service points have been established in those UCs of the district who have greater MMHPs in numbers.

Trained technicians along with vehicle mobile service has been ensured at these different service points. These service points are then linked with the main service station located at Chitral town. The project is providing services to MMHPs of the district and due to its success, now it is planned to replicate the same model in district Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Battagram districts of KPK. This will assist the MMHPs constructed under PEDO and through this way the initiative taken by KPK Government for constructing 1000 MMHPs can be sustained in the long run as it is suggested and recommended in the study that after handling over the projects to communities, there is capacity gap and only basic issues and problems related to MMHPS could be resolved by local operators. However, without having repair and maintenance services the sustainability of these MMHPs is on great stake.
